Today is not just to celebrate but it's to remember and to reflect and how we can help women right around the world.
That's the view of Razan Ibrahim, guest speaker at the Cavan local enterprise event, which is taking place this evening to coincide with International Women's Day.
Speaking on this morning's Joe Finnegan Show, Razan who is originally from Syria, said that when she arrived in Ireland in 2011, she felt safe and independent as a woman compared to the life she left behind in her home country.
She highlighted how the restraints she was under as a young women in her country were "changeling" while men there were treated differently. Ms Ibrahim says women in Ireland should feel safe and be able to live their lives in the same way men do. The Journalist and human rights activist says support from all men is needed to make women feel safe and more included in society.
