Considering the demand for housing locally and nationally at present, a Cavan County Councillor has called on relaxing the planning laws for providing modular homes in certain circumstances.
That's the strong view of Cllr TP O'Reilly who raised the matter at the monthly meeting of Cavan County Council yesterday.
The Fine Gael Councillor requested that the local authority wrote to Kieran O'Donnell, Minister of State for local government and planning to see relaxed measures for modular homes in what he called specific measures. He said these homes wouldn't fix every aspect of the current housing issue but would help levitate the situation for some people that are in the need for somewhere to call home.
The local councillor pointed to the fact that modular homes have changed a lot over the years with them being a solid structure, being A rated and most come with a long life span. Cllr O'Reilly said that the area would be suited to modular homes due to the rural location allowing them not to hinder on the local landscape but help answer the current housing situation.
