Uisce Éireann should learn from Cavan 'boil water' residents

The Annagh Group Water scheme is based at Annagh Lake in Belturbet and services Ballyhaise, Castletara and Redhills in Cavan.

When a boil water notice was issued to residents on the Annagh Group Water Scheme recently some people didn't receive the information on time or at all. Some people continued to drink the water after the notice was issued and reported not receiving correspondence from Uisce Éireann. As information trickled down, people who wanted to verify details with the utilities company were told to follow progress on the company's website.

The Annagh Group Water scheme is based at Annagh Lake in Belturbet and services Ballyhaise, Castletara and Redhills in Cavan. Following the experience of residents in this large area, Cavan County Councillor, Stiofán Conaty, has asked that the Council write to Uisce Éireann and the National Federation of Group Water Schemes to ask that they improve communications with all customers. In particular, he wants the utility companies to take into consideration customers' ability to access online services:
