Calls for the removal of the Russian ambassador to Ireland were made at a recent meeting of Cavan County Council.
Cllr Aiden Fitzpatrick said that the Invasion of Ukraine by Russia reminded him of the concentration camps in Germany and what Hitler did to the Jews during World War 11.
He said that Yury Filatov should be sent home and a message made loud and clear to President Putin that "Ireland does not tolerate attacks on democratic countries".
He added that Mr Filatov was only in Ireland to "spy on the rest of Europe" and he was a man that couldn’t be trusted.
The meeting also heard that sending the Russian ambassador home wasn’t the answer.
Cllr TP O'Reilly pointed out that there are Irish citizens in Russia, and therefore, the channels of communication needed to be kept open for their sake.
"Expelling the Russia ambassador is not the answer here," he added.
"We have Irish citizens in Russia and we need to keep the lines of communication open for them."
