Cllr Peter McVitty called for recreational users of forests to "clean up after themselves" during a recent meeting of Cavan County Council. He told those gathered that he sees black bags of rubbish and litter left behind in the local forest when those in tents and caravans move on.
Cllr McVitty highlighted how irresponsible people using amenities like forests were becoming. He said the problem is not confined to Co Cavan and is one that can be seen in forests "the length and breadth of Ireland". Cllr McVitty added that there needs to be a management system in place to deal effectively with the matter.
