A Clones councillor is calling for those who have been with diagnosed with a terminal illness to be automatically entitled to a medical card. Cllr Pat Treanor brought the matter to the fore at this month's sitting of Monaghan County Council.
According to the Sinn Fein representative, the measure would alleviate some of the pressures faced by cancer patients and those diagnosed with a terminal illness during a traumatic time. While an automatic medical card is provided in some instances, Cllr Treanor outlined that this is evaluated through an individual's financial situation. Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr Treanor described the current process as "unfair" and has called for it to be reversed.
