The slurry spreading deadline must be extended well into October in a bid to help the agricultural sector who are working to a standstill to try and meet the current cut off point.
That's according to local Aontú Councillor Sarah O'Reilly who is calling on the Minister for Agriculture to extend the deadline as a matter of urgency.
Cllr O'Reilly says normally they would be able to spread slurry in the Spring / Summer, but this Summer was truly awful as we know with more rain than sun".
She said farmers and agricultural contractors are in an absolute tailspin given the dreadful summer we had, adding the fields around Cavan were sodden and only improved recently". The Co Cavan councillor says she has been inundated with calls from farmers and contractors needing to get the tanks emptied but it's an absolute impossibility,
