The legal process of buying a house was scrutinised by the Oireachtas Justice Committee this week. The Institute of Professional Auctioneers & Valuers told the committee that the sale process needs to be faster by providing full transparency and information to prospective buyers upfront. IPAV also wants to see the conveyancing system become more efficient, secure and cost effective for future buyers.
Monaghan Senator Robbie Gallagher is on the Oireachtas Justice Committee and is also a local auctioneer and valuer. Speaking to Northern Sound, he believes that reform is needed sooner rather than later. "It's clearly evident to anyone who operates in this industry that reform is needed and this piece of legislation that IPAV have been working on and that Deputy Marc MacSharry has introduced is a vehicle to try and address some of the frustrations that our clearly out there among people operating within the industry."
