A local boy has had to have ‘extensive, specialist surgery’ due to littering in Virginia Town.
On Saturday Naomi Jackson and her son Lewis were walking in Virginia Forest when he slipped falling onto leaves under which was broken glass.
First aid was given on site, before Lewis was brought to Cavan General Hospital for review and transferred to Temple Street for Plastic surgery.
He received a serious injury to his arm and hand requiring specialist surgery, and is now on a long road to recovery, including getting used to writing again.
In a post on Facebook both Naomi and Virginia Tidy Towns are asking everyone to be mindful in disposing of rubbish or taking it home so injuries like this are prevented.
