A local beauty salon owner says it's 'hugely disappointing' that the industry was excluded from the VAT reduction for hairdressers yesterday.
Anna Costello who owns Utopia Health and Beauty Clinic in Cavan, as well as running a training community and distribution service, says the beauty industry was forgotten about again in yesterday's budget, and fears that many salons nationally may struggle to keep doors open.
Following the initial lockdown Anna had been able to hire two new employees, however the move to Level 3 meant she has since had to let one of the new employees go, which she says is very unfortunate.
She stated that the prioritisation of big companies by the government in the budget means she will still struggle to access appropriate supports.
Speaking to Shannonside Northern Sound Anna said they had lobbied continuously to be included in the VAT rate reduction:
