Monaghan County Council is in the process of locating a site for a domestic violence refuge in Monaghan Town.
However, Director of Capital Management Delivery, Cathal Flynn, told today's Joint Policing Committee that the Local Authority is in "the very early stages of identifying a site".
Councillor Pat Treanor asked the meeting if it would be possible to set aside some housing units for victims of domestic violence.
Cathal Flynn said the Council is looking at "one site instead of a 'satellite' of homes".
Meanwhile, David Maxwell passed a motion calling on the Council to work with colleagues in Cavan, as well as the HSE, gardaí and services like Tearmann, to "put measures in place to help" victims of domestic violence.
