Local Authority demands apology from Joe Brolly after he labelled Clones 'Calcutta, Ireland'

The Sunday Independent article also made reference to home-owners charging for parking on their property during the Ulster Final.

Monaghan County Council is demanding an apology from Joe Brolly over an article in which he appeared to compare Clones to Calcutta.

The Local Authority is also calling for a printed apology from The Sunday Independent, the newspaper which ran the article in question.

In the aftermath of the recent Ulster Final in St Tiernach's Park, a Joe Brolly article in The Sunday Independent referred to Clones as "Calcutta, Ireland".

The article also made reference to traffic issues in the town on Ulster Final Day and home-owners charging for parking on their property.

The Emergency Motion was raised by Cllr Richard Truell, the out-going Cathaoirleach of the Ballybay-Clones MD, at yesterday's County Council meeting.

Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr Truell said he was "extremely saddened" by the comparison to Calcutta and hit out at Brolly's criticism of the parking arrangements:
