Monaghan County Council has passed a motion calling on the Health Minister to initiate an independent review of the "gross" under-resourcing of the National Ambulance Service.
The motion was raised by Independent Councillor Paudge Connolly, having been circulated to the Local Authority from Clare County Council.
Paudge Connolly told the meeting that there have been "excessive waits in Monaghan recently that are unacceptable".
The Independent councillor recently told Northern Sound that local people are having to wait for 'hours on end', even when accidents occur only minutes away from the Monaghan ambulance base.
Speaking at the recent County Council meeting, Paudge Connolly said the motion is no reflection on staff but "on a system that is grossly wrong".
