Cavan County Council has called on the Transport Minister to delay the implementation of new NCT criteria.
Councillor Shane P O'Reilly says the "new raft of inspection points" on the NCT, which came into effect in June, mainly concern electronic features on cars.
While Councillor O'Reilly says he is "all for safety", he added that the new criteria is "putting an extra burden on people, and extra finance on them to rectify problems which don't affect the safety of the car".
He's called on Minister Eamon Ryan to rescind and postpone the changes to "allow people to get back on their feet after the pandemic":
