Local councils have paid out nearly 150 million euro in the past 5 years, on compensation for people claiming to be injured on damaged footpaths.

New figures show nearly 10 thousand claims have been made since 2017, equating to about 5 people per day.

At a local level, counties Cavan and Monaghan had some of the lowest number of claims recorded.
