The book launch of Cavan artist Kim Gaffney will take place this evening in the Crover House Hotel at 7pm. Kim's new art book marries a 17th Century legend, a 19th century poem and 21st century art to awaken the story of Orwin and Sebana.
The 60 page book includes a foreword by the acclaimed writer and speaker Michael Harding, an author's introduction and 20 images depicting the legend with excerpts of a poem written in the 1800's by Phil O'Connell.
Speaking to Northern Sound, the talented Castlerahan artist said the beauty of Lough Sheelin where the tragic tale is set "inspired" her to delve further and bring the old tale back to life.
Kim hopes that her latest book of art will encourage others to immerse themselves in the story of Orwin and Sebana which was at "risk" of being forgotten.
"This project came about in January when I was awarded a Town Hall scholarship through the Cavan Arts Office to work on a project about Cavan and the culture of Cavan," explained Kim.
"I decided to focus on the lakes, because as an artist I love painting nature, so I started off at Lough Sheelin and I remained at Lough Sheelin because as soon as I went to do some research into it, I remembered the legend of Orwin and Sebana and really wanted to delve further into it and bring it back to life."
Next Friday, 13th of October at 7pm will mark the official launch of Kim's exhibition which will include all of her original artwork in The Ramor Theatre Virginia.
