The municipal district of Ballybay-Clones has one of the highest fertility rates in the country. Accord to recent figures released from the CSO, the local MD recorded a fertility rate of 60.6 births per 1,000 women aged 15 to 49 in 2021. The national average stood at 47.5 fertility rate per 1,000 and the highest in the country was Carrick on Shannon at 61.2 fertility rate per 1000 women. All three LEA's in Cavan recored a figure of around 50 fertility rate per 1,000 women. While in the Monaghan MD and Carrickmacross/Castleblayney MD a figure of 51.5 and 51.7 was recorded.
Urban LEAs such as Dublin’s Southeast Inner City, Galway City Central, and Dublin’s North Inner City had the lowest general fertility rate. The new report, titled births and deaths at local electoral areas 2021found there were 60,575 births in Ireland that year, with the highest number being in Dublin’s north inner city LEA at 755.
