Gardaí in Cavan and Monaghan are appealing to motorists to "take care" as silage cutting season gets underway. According to local Gardaí, this means an increase in agricultural machinery exiting farms onto the public roads.
The appeal comes as farmers and contractors have started cutting silage around the country as the weather improves. As a result, Gardaí are encouraging motorists who are travelling behind a tractor or other slow moving vehicles to "be patient" and don’t be tempted to overtake in a dangerous manner.
Motorists are advised to always be on the look-out for farm machinery exiting fields and farm yards. Farmers are also asked to be "aware" of traffic building up and to "keep left" when safe to do so in order to allow others to pass safely. Motorists are also asked to "never" use your mobile phone whilst driving on public roads and to drive safely over the summer months.
