A local domestic abuse service is encouraging victims to use the New Year as an opportunity to reach out and seek help if they are suffering in silence. Siobhan McKenna from Tearmann highlighted how the service sees an increase in demand particularly after the Christmas period. According to Siobhan, many women are living in fear with the pressure to stay in the family home in order to give children family memories at Christmas time.
Despite this, Siobhan has encouraged victims to look at the New Year as a turning point for change and to explore ways in how necessary changes can be made. Speaking to Northern Sound, the local service manager said it's important to reach out and avail of the services that are out there.
