An area remains sealed off this lunchtime following the discovery of a body of a woman in her 50s near Ballyconnell.
Gardaí have launched a murder investigation.
Gardaí said they were alerted to a serious incident in at a rural home on a cul de sac in Kilnavart near Ballyconnell at approximately 9.30pm last night. The woman's body was discovered by gardaí at the scene and a man in his 60s was seriously injured and was brought to Cavan General Hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition.
One man aged in his 30s was arrested at a separate location, and detained pursuant to Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984, at a Garda Station in the Co. Cavan area.
Investigating Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and those with information to come forward.
