Farmers from the Northern Sound region were big winners at the 81st Virginia Show this week.
Gavin McEnaney of Fieldhouse, Carrickmacross has been awarded joint champion of the Carnaross Mart All-Ireland female weanling competition. Andrew Gilmore of Cortubber, Kingscourt was awarded first place in the Champion Pedigree Sheep category while Sean and Gerry McKiernan of Colismore House in Ballinagh are owners of the champion Hereford.
Adrian McCabe of Claggagh, Ballyjamesduff meanwhile took home the reserve prize in the overall Limousin of Virginia Show title and the Connolly family of Ardansaghan in Carrigallen won the overall Simmental Champion. Padraic Greenan from Ardaghy not only won the Diageo Baileys Champion Cow title but also the Friesian and any Dairy Breeds categories. In the ICA "Skills of the Year" competition first place was won by Maghera ICA, Virginia, Cavan.
