The IFA president says Lidl has agreed to meet with the farming organisation following its poultry protest outside Lidl stores in Cavan and Monaghan.
Poultry farmers staged the 24-hour protest outside the Lidl stores to seek an increase in product prices to offset the rise input costs.
IFA President Tim Cullinan said the protest came on the back of "damaging" cut-price promotions by the German supermarket chain and added that a "clear message" has been sent to its senior management.
Agriculture Minister Charlie McConalogue was in Ballyhaise College this morning to launch the "Teagasc Soils, Nutrients, and Fertiliser Campaign".
He said a "healthy and respectful relationship" is needed between farmers and retailers and told Northern Sound that local farmers have come under "significant pressure" recently:
