Leona Maguire has been named an educational ambassador for the Irish American Partnership.
The transatlantic charity provides funding to schools in Ireland to improve the learning of future generations.
The west-Cavan golfer launched her new role alongside the American Ambassador to Ireland by presenting cheques worth €10,000 to her parents Breda and Declan, who are the principals of St Patrick's National School Corlough and St Patrick's National School Castletara.
Their schools are among the 65 that will share an initial €246,000 in funding.
Speaking to Northern Sound News, Breda Maguire said Leona hopes to get as many local schools as possible involved.
