It is "totally unacceptable" that it has taken three years for Portuguese police to add Cavan woman Jean Tighe to a missing person's database.

That's the view of local TD Deputy Brendan Smith, who raised the family's plight for answers to the Munterconnaght woman's disappearance in the Dail last week.

The Cavan-Monaghan TD called on the authorities in Portugal to answer what he calls the "legitimate" questions of the family who he described as "distraught".

Jean Tighe disappeared, aged 38, from Parede, a Portuguese holiday resort, on July 13th, 2020.

Last week marked three years since the Cavan native was last seen.

Deputy Smith said despite numerous requests, it took until last Monday to get Jean's name on the missing person's database.

The local TD raised Jean's disappearance with the Tainaste saying that more needs to be done to help the TIghe family.
