The Agriculture Minister says legislation for a food ombudsman will be brought to Cabinet this month.
Addressing the Monaghan IFA AGM, Charlie McConalogue said that after presenting it to the Dail, the office will be established "over the course of the year".
It's hoped that when operational, the ombudsman will enforce unfair trading practices and have a specific role in reporting on price and market data.

IFA Regional Chairman, Frank Brady, feels the Government is lacking urgency on the matter.
