Homeowners in Co Monaghan are expected to receive legal warnings in the coming weeks due to a crackdown on TV 'dodgy boxes'.
According to an article published by Adrian Weckler of the Irish Independent, the number of households using the illegal streaming service across Monaghan is one the "highest" nationally.
Speaking on this morning's Joe Finnegan Show, Mr Weckler said that legal warnings will be posted via letter to a number of addresses across the Monaghan area in the coming weeks.
Despite this, Mr Weckler believes that authorities will focus on going after those who are selling the software as opposed to the homeowners using them, adding that prosecutions are "very rare"
While Ireland overall has the sixth highest use of dodgy boxes in the EU, Mr Weckler has advised locals to "be careful" as using the illegal streaming service will only enhance the chances of your system getting a "virus."
"The only practical and effective reason that I've found has struck a chord with people for not wanting to use a dodgy box is that there is a higher chance of getting a virus in your system," he explained. "These boxes are completely unregulated, it's wild-west tech so you have a higher chance in obtaining a virus and if households notice things going awry it could be your dodgy box."
