A lecture which considers the presence of loyalist armed resistance in Cavan from 1920 to 1923 is set to take place later today.
The talk by Dr Edward Burke who is a Lecturer in the History of War at University College Dublin argues that resistance was generally less intense and more poorly organised in Cavan compared to Monaghan.
According to the speaker at the event, Dr Burke said West Cavan resembled shared similar experiences of IRA violence to that seen in neighbouring County Leitrim.
The talk entitled - 'A Toothless Hound of Ulster? Loyalist Paramilitarism in Cavan, 1920-1922' will take place in Johnston Central Library in Cavan Town at 7.30pm this evening.
Dr Burke says the free event taking place is aimed to be informative and educational.
