Largy College pays tribute to 'cherished' students

It is with profound sadness and grief that the school community learned of the tragic loss of two students.

Largy College has issued a statement this afternoon after two of its students died in a road traffic accident yesterday evening. The College says that students, staff, Board of Management and parents are in deep shock following the road traffic collision.

Principal Sharon Magennis said it was with "profound sadness and grief" that the school community learned of the tragic loss of two "cherished members" of the College. She extended her deepest sympathies to the families and friends who have lost loved ones and highlighted how those who were injured remain in their thoughts and prayers at this time.

Ms Magennis extended the school's "heartfelt gratitude" to the emergency services and Gardaí who responded to the accident. She said that the wellbeing and welfare of the students, parents, and staff at this difficult time, is now a priority for the school.

The Largy College Critical Incident Team has met to coordinate a response and to enact the Critical Incident Plan. Meanwhile, Dr Fiona McGrath, Chief Executive of Cavan Monaghan ETB said today marked "a somber day for Largy College and the entire school community".

"On behalf of CMETB, I extend my deepest condolences to the families and friends of the students involved in this accident. CMETB will provide the support and resources needed to help the school community come to terms with their loss in the days and weeks ahead," she said.

Cllr Carmel Brady, Chairperson of the CMETB Board added, “The news of the tragic accident has deeply shaken our community. On behalf of CMETB Board members I send our deepest sympathies to everyone impacted by this accident.

"Our thoughts are with the families who have lost their loved ones. We share in their grief and extend our heartfelt condolences to them at this difficult time.”
