A funeral service for Dlava Mohamed is currently taking place at Clonskeagh Mosque in Dublin. The 16-year-old died alongside her best friend 17-year-old Kiea McCann after the car they were travelling in left the road at Legnakelly and hit a tree.
The girls, who were students of Largy College in Clones, were travelling to the school Debs Ball when the accident happened at 6:45pm on Monday. Requiem Mass for Kiea will get underway at the Sacred Heart Chapel in Clones within the next hour and burial takes place afterwards in Mount St Oliver's Cemetery.
Students from the school will form guards of honour at their funerals this afternoon. Meanwhile, there is a deep sense of sadness and heartbreak in Clones and across the entire county of Monaghan. Principal of Largy College, Sharon McGennis has described Dlava as "a gorgeous soul who radiated goodness". She added that Kiea was a "friendly, kind and warm-hearted girl", who always demonstrated a willingness to support others.
Elsewhere, Dlava's 18-year-old sister, Auin and the 60-year old driver of the car were critically injured in the accident and are receiving treatment for their injuries at Beaumont Hospital and the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast respectively.
An 18-year-old boy is also in hospital where he is being treated for injuries that are being described as non life threatening. Gardai have launched an investigation into a road traffic collision that has left an entire community in Clones devastated in its wake.
They are also anxious to speak to motorists who were driving on the N54 between 6:15 and 7pm, and who have camera footage, including dash-cam to make contact with them.
