The annual Moylagh JFK 50 Mile Challenge got underway this morning.
Last year saw those who took part in the Moylagh JFK 50 Mile Challenge breach the €1 million mark for money raised for charity since the local event's inception 12 years ago.
In aid of The Irish Cancer Society, LARCC and Palliative Care, this year's event which took place from 6am saw walkers and runners complete the 50 mile challenge in 20 hours or less, covering scenic routes through Meath, Cavan and Westmeath.
Noel Connell is from Mountnugent and is also a committee member.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Noel praised the work and effort made by all of those involved:
"What we do is we give 80% to the cancer society. We actually ask the cancer society to come back down after we give them the money in a couple of months time and tell us exactly where they spend that money. We follow the money because it's very important for people to know where the money is going to and they thank us so much for the help they get because local paliative care doesn't get a large amount of funding. They depend on people like ourselves who raise money through charity for them".
