A large County Cavan contingent is travelling to the German city of Wurzburg this weekend to celebrate the region's catholic heritage and the Cavan man that made it a reality. Up to 70 people are making the journey to celebrate the connection with Mullagh.
The St Killian's Festival will kick off on Saturday with a parade through the cobbled streets of Franconia. And on Sunday, mass will be celebrated in the local cathedral with a procession of the priceless relics of St Killian, who hailed from Mullagh.
Local Councillor Shane P O'Reilly says it's a great platform on a yearly basis on which to extend the hand of friendship between Ireland and Germany. The Mullagh native says this year is very much different than previous years due to the fact that he hopes the relics can be brought back to Mullagh in the near future.
He said this is all about bringing St Killian home to Mullagh. Cllr O'Reilly says this connection has been developing for many years through this annual event and it's great for tourism for Cavan.
