Lakeland Dairies says a "workplace incident" that resulted in a man sustaining "serious injuries" will be "investigated thoroughly".
The incident happened at around 3.30 yesterday afternoon at the Lakeland Dairies site in Killeshandra, Co Cavan.
Gardaí confirmed that they attended the scene of a "workplace incident" and added that a male in his 20s "was conveyed to Cavan General Hospital for treatment of serious injuries sustained as a result of this incident".
In a statement to Northern Sound News, Lakeland Dairies said they're "grateful to the emergency services for their attendance and assistance following the accident".
The spokesperson confirmed that a "person employed by a contractor carrying out work experienced an accident" yesterday afternoon.
They added that the "current understanding is that this involved a malfunction of welding equipment being used in the contracted working area".
The Lakeland Dairies spokesperson said "our first thoughts are with the person affected by this accident and we wish them a speedy recovery", and confirmed the incident will be "investigated thoroughly by Lakeland Dairies".
The matter has been also been referred to the Health and Safety Authority, and in a statement to Northern Sound, the HSA says it is aware of the incident, which is currently under investigation.
