Due to missing liked minded people from the gay community, Leanne felt compelled to do something.

The lack of events and services for the LGBTQ community in the Cavan has been brought to the fore this week.

Killinkere native Leanne McMahon who has just returned to Cavan after studying in Dublin for five years has highlighted the issue.

Due to missing liked minded people from the gay community, Leanne felt compelled to do something in an effort too help other LGBTQ people living locally. Along with a friend she decided to start a book club for the queer community in Cavan.

The 26 year old described the book club as an opportunity for people over 18 in the county to come together and just be around people they can be comfortable with. The next book club meeting will take places on Sunday at 12pm in Insomnia, Cavan. Leanne says being gay in rural Ireland can still be very isolating but overall the majority of people are very accepting and welcoming,
