Road safety measures are needed at two local schools in the wider Virginia area.
That's according to local Cllr Shane P O'Reilly who says this issue is a direct result of motorists avoiding the high volumes of traffic in Virginia. Cllr O'Reilly says the situation outside Knocktemple National School and Crossreagh National School is now reaching crisis point.
He says the volume of traffic that is now passing both schools has become a 'rat run' to stay away from Virginia Town Centre. Cavan County Council say there is plans in place to address the current situation and Cllr O'Reilly is appealing for this process to be sped up to make this area safe for the children and locals using these roads.
The local representative says the planned by-pass won't come quick enough and something needs to be done now.
