Calls for a new focus on improving the roads network in Co Monaghan have been made.
Cllr Seamus Coyle initiated the matter during a recent meeting of the Ballybay/Clones Municipal District.
He pointed out that roads across the county were "deteriorating rapidly" and that in many cases routes were in an "atrocious" state.
Cllr Coyle highlighted how roads that had been in a good state of repair were now also starting to deteriorate.
He added that Co Monaghan found itself in a unique situation in that 70% of its population live in rural areas.
The local area representative highlighted how he had become aware in recent days of a road in the county that was "actually" collapsing.
Everyone gathered agreed with his sentiments but the lack of funds was also brought to the fore during proceedings.
