A 30km trail along the former rail line from Navan to Kingscourt has been officially opened.
The Boynevalley to Lakelands Greenway was officially opened yesterday afternoon by the Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys and Minister of State at the Department of Transport, Jack Chambers. The new greenway provides a 30 kilometre bicycle and walking path along the former Midland Great Western Railway.
The greenway that links Co Meath and Co Cavan stretches from Navan to the Dun an Rí Forest Park in Kingscourt. Minister Heather Humphreys says her department has provided over €2.1 Million since 2018 to develop and enhance the local recreation amenity.
Cllr Clifford Kelly said this greenway will enhance the town of Kingscourt and allow for more people to come and visit the area. He highlighted that at present the new trail ends in Kingscourt Town but the completed plans allow for the track to end at the local forest park.
