Members of Cavan County Council paid tribute to the late Kevin Smith during this month's meeting of the local authority which took place on Monday. Mr Smith, an engineer with Cavan County Council, died on the 29th of December last following an illness.
He was remembered fondly by all those gathered at the meeting, with many highlighting his obliging, caring and decent nature. Cllr Winston Bennett attributed the success of the Taste of Cavan to Mr Smith.
He said that without Kevin, "it would never have happened" and he also highlighted his dedicated involvement in the three Fleadhs that took place in Cavan in recent years. Cllr Clifford Kelly told the meeting that Mr Smith was "one of nature's gentlemen".
The local area representative in Kingscourt said the Cavan man as 'doer' and pointed out that whatever the situation, Mr Smith wold find a way to do things right. He added that it was sad to see a man in the prime of his life "taken away" in the manner Kevin was.
Cllr Val Smith said Mr Smith was a "good friend" of his, and one whom he had known for a long time. Cllr Smith offered his sympathies to Kevin's heartbroken family. Kevin Smith is survived by his wife Olivia, daughters, son, parents, sister, extended family, neighbours and friend.
