Kevin Lunney says the anguish his abduction caused his family is a greater torment than the physical pain he felt.
The businessman's victim impact statement was read to the Special Criminal Court as part of the sentence hearing of the three men found guilty of falsely imprisoning him and causing him serious harm.
On November 8th last, a man, who can’t be named by court order and is known only as YZ, was found to have inflicted most of the injuries and two others; 40-year-old Alan O’Brien and 27-year-old Darren Redmond, both from East Wall in Dublin, were also convicted for their roles.
Although present in Court today, Mr Lunney chose to have his victim impact statement read out by Detective Garda Linda Harkin.
In it, he said the physical scars and mental trauma will stay with him for the rest of his life, but that the anguish it caused his family was worse than anything he felt on September 17th 2019.
He thanked his fellow directors for their resilience, as well as the staff and community at QIH, who organised a solidarity march in the days after his attack.
The Court was told he sees today's sentencing as a major milestone, but that the "journey to full accountability was not yet complete".
He said he sympathised with the families of the three men saying he was "saddened they have ruined their lives by their actions".
Having heard mitigating factors by the defence barristers, Mr Justice Tony Hunt adjourned matters until December 20th, when the three-judge Court will deliver their sentences to each of the three men.
