The Justice Minister says we "must be realistic" about the "limited prospect for a successful prosecution" in relation to the Belturbet Bombing.
Helen McEntee says the matter was thoroughly investigated by gardaí at the time, with co-operation from authorities in Northern Ireland.
However, she says it was not possible to secure evidence that would have led to prosecutions despite the best efforts of all involved in the investigation.
She was responding to a questions from local Fianna Fáil TD Brendan Smith in relation to the 1972 bombing which killed teenagers Geraldine O'Reilly and Patrick Stanely.
She committed to working with authorities in the North and in Britain on the case.
