The jurors are due to hear from Aaron Brady’s defence team for a final time today.
Mr. Brady, from Crossmaglen, Co. Armagh, is accused of murdering Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe during an armed robbery in Co. Louth seven years ago.
After six months, the trial entered its final stages on Friday with the closing speech from one of the prosecuting barristers, Lorcan Staines.
He accused Aaron Brady of shooting Det Adrian Donohoe outside Lordship CU on Jan 25th 2013, and of wearing what he’s alleged to have done as a ‘badge of honour’.
Mr. Brady denies having anything to do with it, claiming he was fuel laundering at the time. He also denied admitting it to anyone afterwards.
Mr. Staines repeatedly called him a liar in his final address. He accused him of telling a litany of lies, and asked the jurors if all the circumstantial evidence in the case could just be a lot of bad luck.
The attention will shift to the defence’s closing speech when the trial resumes this morning.
