Jozef Puska will today be handed a mandatory life sentence for murdering Ashling Murphy. It’s after a jury unanimously found him guilty of the schoolteacher’s murder last week.
33-year-old Jozef Puska, of Lynally Grove, Mucklagh, Co Offaly, killed Ashling Murphy on the 12th of January 2022 while she was exercising along the Grand Canal in Tullamore.
The Murphy family has the opportunity to deliver a victim impact statement before the Central Criminal Court today – but they are not obliged to do so. Since Jozef Puska was found guilty of murder, there is only one option available to trial judge Mr Justice Tony Hunt – a mandatory life sentence. That will be handed to him later today.
