A regular competitor across a number of disciplines and most recently finishing 2nd in Clare Motor Club’s Autocross event on Easter Sunday, he was killed in a two vehicle collision in Rossnowlagh yesterday evening.
The occupants of the other car were uninjured.
In a post online, Monaghan Motor Club said “he had an incredible driving talent with success in various motorsport categories”.
Perhaps known best for his heroics in his iconic blue Honda Civic rally car, he was a finalist in the Billy Coleman Award competition in 2017.
Those who competed alongside Johnny described him as “one of the best talents in this country to ever get behind the wheel of a rally car”.
Meanwhile, those who knew the late Mr Treanor, have described him as a "genuine guy, with unreal talent" and someone who was "one in a million."
Investigations into the collision are ongoing, with Gardai appealing for witnesses or anyone with dash-cam footage to come forward.
