Local Senator Joe O’Reilly has been chosen by Fine Gael Senators to take over as Leas-Cathaoirleach of the Seanad.
He replaces Jerry Buttimer who resigned from the post after he attended the controversial Oireachtas Golf Society dinner.
Senator O’Reilly was chosen by Fine Gael Senators for the deputy chair post, which comes with a salary top-up of €25,000.
Fianna Fáil Senator Mark Daly was elected Cathaoirleach of the Seanad in July.
It’s expected Senator O’Reilly will be confirmed as Leas-Cathaoirleach by the Seanad in the coming days.
