Jack Charlton is being remembered as putting Carrickmacross 'on the map' according to a local journalist.
The former Republic of Ireland boss passed away on Friday at the age of 85 following a period of ill health, and tributes have poured in throughout the weekend.
Irish Times journalists and Carrickmacross native Frank McNally says that Charlton brought a real sense of pride to Ireland during his time as manager, and became like a father figure to the country.
Speaking to Shannonside Northern Sound Frank said that his hometown owe Jack Charlton a lot following his decision to bring the team to train there, making a tourist destination of it.
He said that when the team came to train in the area it brought with it an interest in the town from those across the country, as well as in the angling available.
