Fine Gael will commit today to scrapping the means test for the Carer’s Allowance. While People Before Profit will launch a manifesto which includes making childcare and public transport completely free.
Political Correspondent Seán Defoe reports: "It's a day of giveaways being promised to voters with Fine Gael offering to immediately raise the income limit for the Carers Allowance to 2,500 euro a week immediately if returned to Government. This would mean where one parent had to give up work full time the other could earn 130,000 euro and still qualify for carers allowance, with the means test being totally scrapped over a number of years.
"People Before Profit will launch its manifesto this afternoon including promises to cap price on essentials like food and energy, to ban new data centres and set up a state construction company. Elsewhere on the trail Sinn Féin will launch proposals for an immigration management agency, Fianna Fáil will present a document on affordable healthcare and the Soc Dems and Greens launch climate plans
