Irish Water says upcoming works in Co Cavan will "bring a more reliable water supply to homes in Billis and Stragelliff".
Nearly 2 kilometres of old water mains close to Cavan Town, which are prone to leakages, will be replaced by modern pipework in the coming days.
The works will take place in the townlands of Shankill Upper and Billis.
Irish Water says "there may be short term interruptions to the water supply in the area and traffic management will be in place".
However, customers will be given a minimum of 48 hours' notice prior to any planned water interruptions and areas of work will be limited to short distance to minimise impact.
The project due to be completed by early next year and Irish Water says the works will reduce disruptions from bursts and outages and reduce the amount of clean water lost underground.
Declan Cawley, Networks Regional Lead with Irish Water, says there "will be an immediate positive impact to supply for customers".
