The new office of the Food Ombudsman will be up and running in the New Year.
That's according to Minister for Agriculture Charlie McConalogue who was speaking to Northern Sound this week in the aftermath of an avian flu outbreak in Co Monaghan.
The Minister said that changes to the Bill - which were recommended by the Oireachtas Agriculture Committee - will be made in the coming days and it will then make its way through the Dail and Seanad for ratification.
Minister McConalogue says the recruitment process for an ombudsman is now underway.
He added the importance of the office in terms of transparency in the food supply chain.
