A public health expert says Ireland has over twice the European average for covid 19 cases.
2,002 new cases of coronavirus have been confirmed, up from 1,207 the day before.
Trinity College Dublin Associate Professor Tomás Ryan is describing it as a 'worrying leap' in cases.

There are also 354 patients with covid 19 in hospital, including 73 in ICU.
