Ireland is getting an extra MEP at the next European elections. The number of Irish reps will increase to 14, however it is not yet known which constituency will be given the allocated seat.
Overall, the European Parliament will have an extra 15 seats. The Electoral Commission will now have to review the Irish constituencies and report to Government.
Ireland is one of nine countries to be allocated an additional seat alongside Austria, Denmark, Belgium, Poland, Finland, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Latvia. France, Spain and The Netherlands, meanwhile have been allocated two additional seats.
