Inland Fisheries Ireland is investigating the discovery of 5,000 dead fish at a Cavan lake.
The incident was reported at Barnagrow Lake, close to Shercock during the week.
It's believed the recent heatwave and algae bloom on the water could have could have impacted oxygen levels and been the cause of the death for the bream, roach and perch.
In a statement to Shannonside Northern Sound News, Inland Fisheries Ireland confirmed it's aware of the incident, and investigations are ongoing.
Cavan County Council added that it is liaising with IFI, and getting regular updates on process.
Ronan Murray from Irish Pike Fishing Guide says it's not something you want happening regularly.
